How do you put up with this nonsense?

Windows 11 continues Microsoft's slow deprecation of Control Panel...

...but they're doing a terrible job of it.

I had a climate call me because he was unable to print from Chrome or
Edge, and I quickly learned that you can no longer go to "Devices and
Printers" in Control Panel to remove and re-install printers.

You get immediately shunted to Settings.

Except, in Settings' interface to your printers, you can end up with
entries YOU CAN'T REMOVE.

Normally, you click on the entry for a printer (there's a ">" character
at the right end of the line) and that leads you to a page of settings
specific to that printer.

But this guy had the same printer listed FIVE times and only two of them
had that ">", and the other three wouldn't respond to a click in any
way. "Troubleshooting" was no use, because it only showed two copies of
the printer, and not the ones that I couldn't access.

So after a lot of fooling around, I finally tried... ...I don't know it
was either "Advanced settings" or "More settings" on one of the printers
that I COULD access...

...and you know what it did?

It led me back to the "Devices and Printers" control panel...

...I COULDN'T ACCESS DIRECTLY FROM THE CONTROL PANEL.

How nonsensical.

HOW is the Metro Settings app still under construction after 3/4
releases? (8, 8.1, 10, 11)

If they can't be bothered to finish it, at least keep the working
settings app intact??

I hate it when a climate calls me. I would much rather talk to a

You had a "climate call"? Talk about nonsensical! Your lack of Windows knowledge is the only other thing that is nonsensical here.

Did you make sure the printer is not in sleep state? Is it turned on and working?

On my up-to-date Dell/W11 I think the top one is what you are looking for.

Settings > Bluetooth and Devices > View More Devices (scroll down to find) More Devices and Printer Settings (brings up the old Control Panel view) > Right Click on a printer > Select Remove Device
or
Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Select one of my 2 printers > at the top right "Remove"

And you call yourself a Windows Pro? I'm just a casual user and I found it.

BTW Windows novice, I just remembered, you can also uninstall a printer from Device Manager > Printers > right click > Uninstall Device

And don't lie about knowing this without being told. You are one more sorry "Windows Consultant".

Why did you not try deleting all the printers and reinstalling? I have seen a similar duplicate entries issue with HP installers. Deleting all and reinstall fixed it.

Oh, maybe you could not find the correct Control Panel "Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers" panel that I know how to access.

If you ever need any more Windows advice you have my Google email. Glad to help out.

I DID try deleting all the printers, you lying little shit. Don't blame

There were printers listed in settings that I could not access to
delete. They had an entry, but when you clicked on an entry like that,
NOTHING HAPPENED. You go no access to the next level of interface which

Or is it that you know so little about the Settings app that you don't

You DO NOT HAVE to click on a printer to get its details. There are other paths to get you there, Liarboy.

Try this:

Settings > Bluetooth and Devices > Devices > More Devices and Printer Settings (brings up the old Control Panel view) > Right Click on a printer > Select Remove Device

Here a screenshot showing Settings in the background and Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers panel that has all the printers plus other devices on it. The M140 and 7800 are my printers.

Right click on a printer and select Remove Device. OR, do the same thing in Device Manager. Did you even try that????

Device Manager screenshot:

...and then you have to hunt to find out how to ACTUALLY open the
Devices and Printers control panel?
Post by Thomas E.
Right click on a printer and select Remove Device. OR, do the same
thing in Device Manager. Did you even try that????

I stand by the statement that you don't know what you are doing.
This is a dead simple fix.
I fixed the problem, you lying little shit.
I was commenting on how nonsensical the UI for doing so was...
...and you just demonstrated that so very well.
I agree it is a convoluted way to get there, BUT you never stated in your original post that you found the solution and fixed the problem.
That is, until AFTER I posted two solutions.
'So after a lot of fooling around, I finally tried... ...I don't know it
was either "Advanced settings" or "More settings" on one of the printers
that I COULD access...
...and you know what it did?
It led me back to the "Devices and Printers" control panel...
...I COULDN'T ACCESS DIRECTLY FROM THE CONTROL PANEL.'
That is me literally saying I ended up getting the the Devices and
Printers" control panel, you lying little shit.
I know very well how to remove a printer from that interface.
???? I COULDN'T ACCESS DIRECTLY FROM THE CONTROL PANEL ???? Really?

Actually, you can. Control Panel, Small icon view, right click Devices and Printers, Open in New Window.

See, if you just look for something you just might find it! You just want to bitch, not problem solve.

I win.

Windows 11 continues Microsoft's slow deprecation of Control Panel...
...but they're doing a terrible job of it.
I had a climate call me because he was unable to print from
Chrome or Edge, and I quickly learned that you can no longer go
to "Devices and Printers" in Control Panel to remove and
re-install printers.
You get immediately shunted to Settings.
Except, in Settings' interface to your printers, you can end
up with entries YOU CAN'T REMOVE.
Normally, you click on the entry for a printer (there's a ">"
character at the right end of the line) and that leads you to
a page of settings specific to that printer.
But this guy had the same printer listed FIVE times and only
two of them had that ">", and the other three wouldn't respond
to a click in any way. "Troubleshooting" was no use, because it
only showed two copies of the printer, and not the ones that I
couldn't access.
So after a lot of fooling around, I finally tried... ...I
don't know it was either "Advanced settings" or "More settings"
on one of the printers that I COULD access...
...and you know what it did?
It led me back to the "Devices and Printers" control panel...
...I COULDN'T ACCESS DIRECTLY FROM THE CONTROL PANEL.
How nonsensical.
Why did you not try deleting all the printers and reinstalling?
I have seen a similar duplicate entries issue with HP
installers. Deleting all and reinstall fixed it.
I DID try deleting all the printers, you lying little shit. Don't
blame me that you can't read.
There were printers listed in settings that I could not access to
delete. They had an entry, but when you clicked on an entry like
that, NOTHING HAPPENED. You go no access to the next level of
interface which is where the "Remove" would be.
Or is it that you know so little about the Settings app that you
don't know you have to first click on a printer, get into its
details interface and only then to you get "Remove"?

Oh, maybe you could not find the correct Control Panel "Hardware
and Sound > Devices and Printers" panel that I know how to
access.
That "control panel" now immediately opens settings in Windows 11.

If you ever need any more Windows advice you have my Google
email. Glad to help out.
Based on what you think you know... ...no thanks.
You DO NOT HAVE to click on a printer to get its details. There are
other paths to get you there, Liarboy.
Settings > Bluetooth and Devices > Devices > More Devices and Printer
Settings (brings up the old Control Panel view) > Right Click on a
printer > Select Remove Device
Here a screenshot showing Settings in the background and Control
Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers panel that has all the
printers plus other devices on it. The M140 and 7800 are my
printers.

And you don't think it nonsensical that click on the icon in Control
Panel labelled "Devices and Printers" takes you do the Settings app...
...and then you have to hunt to find out how to ACTUALLY open the
Devices and Printers control panel?

I see, so I have to do as special click now... ...when up until this
point, simply clicking on it worked?

How is one supposed to DISCOVER this fact, you piece of shit?

I win.
I solved my client's problem and got paid. I got paid MORE because
Microsoft replaced well-understood functionality for no good reason and
left something broken in its place.

I win.
